Prof. Kitrosser Quoted by KARE 11 Regarding Kathy Griffin and Free Speech

Professor Heidi Kitrosser was quoted in a broadcast and accompanying print article by local television station KARE 11 regarding the controversy over comedian Kathy Griffin's posting of a photograph in which Griffin holds a fake severed head that appears to be that of President Donald Trump. Kitrosser explained that Griffin's speech is protected under the First Amendment's free speech clause. To be unprotected, Kitrosser observed, Griffin's speech would have to constitute a "true threat," meaning that it would have to be capable of placing a reasonable person in fear for their life.
