Prof. Klass Quoted in Article Covering Increased Controversy Over Use of Eminent Domain for Oil Pipelines

Professor Alexandra Klass was quoted in an article in Think Progress reporting on the increased opposition to interstate oil pipelines being built to transport new sources of oil and gas from production sites to refineries. Investiment in oil and gas pipeline infrastructure has increased significantly since 2007, when hydraulic fracturing technologies opened up vast new sources of U.S. oil and gas reserves in Texas, North Dakota, and other parts of the United States. Almost all states grant private pipeline companies the right of eminent domain if the appropriate state permits are secured, but there is increased opposition to its use by both landowners who oppose intererence with their property rights and environmental groups, who oppose increased fossil fuel development in general.
