Human Rights in Practice Series for International Women’s Day: Professor Ruth Halperin-Kaddari
The Human Rights in Practice series gives students the opportunity to engage with international law and human rights practitioners in an informal setting and to learn about diverse career paths in the field.
Prof. Halperin-Kaddari is an expert on family law, feminist critique of law, and women's rights in Israel. She has served as an expert member of the UN Committee on Elimination Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) since 2006. In 2009 she was elected Vice-Chair of the Committee. She was reelected to a third CEDAW term in 2014, an unprecedented achievement for an expert from Israel. She was again elected vice-chair in 2017.
Prof. Halperin-Kaddari is Director of the Rackman Center for the Advancement of the Status of Women at Bar-Ilan University. She also has served in a national role as the Chair of the Advisory Committee to the Authority for the Advancement of Women in the Israeli Prime Minister's Office.
In 2007 Prof. Halperin-Kaddari was honored with the US Department of State Women of Courage Award.
