Food Law
This seminar will focus on the regulation of food by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and international and state agencies. Students will learn about the statutory and regulatory framework implemented by these agencies and their interpretation and enforcement. You will gain insight into the agencies' decision-making processes and policies. The class will cover the constitutional and administrative law principles related to food regulation and enforcement. You will learn about food labeling, safety, additives and compliance. In addition, we will discuss how laws and regulations impact current food issues such as food access, sustainability, foodborne illness outbreaks and many others.
