Matt Shors serves as Senior Deputy General Counsel of UnitedHealth Group where he has responsibility for overseeing and coordinating litigation, investigations, intellectual property, and sourcing and procurement across the Fortune Six company.
Before joining UnitedHealth Group, Shors was an equity partner at the Washington DC office of O’Melveny & Myers LLP, a leading international law firm. His practice at O’Melveny focused on complex and appellate litigation. During his time at O'Melveny, he worked on more than 40 cases before the US Supreme Court.
While in private practice, Shors was recognized by Law360 as a top ten lawyer under the age of 40 in the nation in the areas of both appellate litigation and product liability law. He has been a frequent lecturer speaker at venues ranging from Harvard Law School and Georgetown Law School to the American Bar Association and the American Law Institute, and has been published in journals ranging from Slate to the Stanford Law Review.
Shors received his law degree in 1998 from Stanford Law School where he graduated with highest honors and was elected to the Order of the Coif. He was also named the most outstanding individual oral advocate of the law school. In 1993 he graduated with honors from the University of Michigan, his undergraduate degree concentrated in political science. Shors was named the most outstanding collegiate debater in the nation while at Michigan.
