Prof. Fionnuala Ní Aoláin and Members of Minnesota Truth Council Hold First Public Meeting

Professor Fionnuala Ní Aoláin KC (Hons) is a member of the Minnesota Truth Council, established by Governor Tim Walz through Executive Order 26-05. The Council was created to document the impacts of Operation Metro Surge and Operation PARRIS in Minnesota. The Council held its first of four public meetings on Wednesday, August 26, hearing testimony from individuals about their experiences during Operation Metro Surge. Following the meeting, Council Chair and retired Judge Peter Cahill answered questions from members of the media.

Ní Aoláin is a University Regents Professor, Robina Chair in Law, Public Policy, and Society, and faculty director of the Human Rights Center. She is a foremost expert in human rights law and international human rights. In 2026, Ní Aoláin was appointed to the Council of State of Ireland by President Catherine Connolly. She currently serves as a Commissioner to the United Nations Independent Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic.
