Prof. Daniel Schwarcz Quoted by Washington Post About Investigation of Dodgers’ Owner 

Professor Daniel Schwarcz, Fredrikson & Byron Professor of Law and Distinguished University Teaching Professor, was quoted by the Washington Post in a story about Los Angeles Dodgers’ owner Mark Walter. He is under investigation by the U.S. attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York and the Securities and Exchange Commission as to whether he engaged in self-dealing and improperly loaning money from policyholders at his life-insurance companies to his private-equity clients. Walter’s firms have denied wrongdoing, but the owner has been trying to compile cash including agreeing to sell his majority controlling stake in the Los Angeles Lakers at a record $12 billion valuation. Prof. Schwarcz said of the financial stability of the sports owner, “I don’t know what was happening under the hood, but it’s deeply concerning.”
