Prof. Matthew Bodie Interviewed by Bloomberg Law About Google’s Acquisition of Spirit Airlines Employee Records

Professor Matthew Bodie, Robins Kaplan Professor of Law, was interviewed by Bloomberg Law about Google’s acquiring of Spirit Airlines’ internal business data following Spirit’s bankruptcy. Google said it hopes the acquisition will improve their products and AI models, but the data also includes 13 million email addresses, 500 million Microsoft Teams messages, and nearly 176,000 employee records. Prof. Bodie said the ramifications of the sale is reminiscent of Enron’s business information and internal emails being released by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission following the energy giant’s 2001 collapse. He said, “Employees at the time didn’t understand their work email could become public that way.”
