Prof. Francis Shen Interviewed by MPR News About Intersection of Healthcare and AI

Professor Francis Shen, Associate Dean for Research and Innovation, and Solly Robins Distinguished Research Fellow and professor of law, was interviewed by MPR News about how healthcare organizations’ integration of artificial intelligence (AI) has revealed the tensions they are up against. Last month, a former Mayo Clinic executive filed a federal whistleblower lawsuit, accusing the healthcare provider of cutting corners by skirting review boards and masking error rates to keep its hold as an industry leader in AI. Prof. Shen said experts in the field have been raising similar concerns. He said, “The nature of the allegations are the sorts of things that we should expect to see more and more of. I would just be very surprised if we don’t see more of these types of concerns coming into court.” Listen to the story.
