Prof. Fionnuala Ní Aoláin Quoted in The New York Review of Books About United Nations Sanctions List

Professor Fionnuala Ní Aoláin was quoted in The New York Review of Books about the United Nations Security Council’s sanctions list. The council continues to add people from around the world to the list, banning their travel, and freezing assets based on classified intelligence. Those on the list are effectively barred from participating in society: they cannot open bank accounts, work, or receive money from relative or friends. In addition, their families can be surveilled. At a talk in Geneva in 2022, Prof. Fionnuala D. Ní Aoláin noted that women and children are often caught in a “cascade effect” — sanctioned by association.
