Prof. Paul Vaaler Gives Keynote Address at United Nations Forum

Professor Paul Vaaler, John and Bruce Mooty Chair in Law and Business, provided the keynote address to ambassadors and delegates attending the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development sponsored by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). Prof. Vaaler’s July 13 keynote address to ambassadors and delegates from more than two dozen middle income countries gathered at the U.N. headquarters in New York discussed financing innovations to advance two sustainable development goals set by the UN in 2010: sustainable development goal seven promoting more affordable, greener energy; and sustainable development goal nine promoting more inclusive industrialization. Prof. Vaaler’s keynote emphasized energy and industrialization financing innovations using migrant remittances and remittance-based lending and investment, including but not limited to financing innovations with so-called “diaspora bonds” and “diaspora development funds.”
