Prof. Richard Painter Interviewed by Northern News Now Regarding Supreme Court Hearing Arguments About Mail-In Ballots

Professor Richard Painter, S. Walter Richey Professor of Corporate Law, was interviewed by Northern News Now about the U.S. Supreme Court hearing arguments to decide whether states can continue to count late-arriving mail ballots. All 50 states require ballots to be cast or postmarked on or before Election Day, but 14 states have grace periods for receiving and counting regular mailed ballots, ranging from a day to several weeks after the election. Prof. Painter said, “It seems to me that you cast your ballot on before Election Day or on Election Day it ought to be counted whether you cast it by depositing it in the ballot box ... or deposit it with the United States mail.” Watch the interview.
