Minnesota Law Minnesota Excels at Environmental Law Moot Court Competition

Minnesota Law excelled at the Jeffrey G. Miller National Environmental Law Moot Court Competition held in White Plains, New York from February 19 - February 21. The National Environmental Law Moot Court Competition is one of the largest moot court competitions in the country—53 teams competed at this year's competition.

The team advanced to the final round and finished in the top three. The team also obtained the second highest brief score for competitors representing the state side. The team was composed of Elena De La Cancela ’26, Alexander Mahmou-Werndli ’26, and Jack Thomas, ’26. The team is coached by Emily Polachek and Rachel Kitze Collins ’14.

Reflecting on the competition, the coaches said: “We are very proud of the time and effort our students dedicated this year to learning, briefing, and preparing to argue a uniquely difficult problem. Not only was their performance at the Competition top-notch, but they represented Minnesota well, and supported each other and their competitors with encouragement, collegiality, and grace.  We’d also like to thank our colleagues in the legal community who donated their time to help prepare the team by serving as guest judges."
