Prof. Emmanuel Mauleón Interviewed by Die Zeit About ICE Activity in Minnesota

Professor Emmanuel Mauleón was interviewed by Germany news source Die Zeit. He reviewed the past two months of ICE activity in Minnesota including the lack of due process for those who have been arrested. Prof. Mauleón said, “The scale of enforcement, the speed of arrests, and the speed with which ICE transfers people out of the country or to other states mean that due process is no longer possible. Sometimes people are denied access to legal representation; sometimes they aren’t even allowed to make a phone call to tell anyone where they are. Since mid-December, more habeas corpus petitions have been filed in Minnesota than in the entire previous year. In a habeas corpus petition, a person files a petition against the government, essentially saying: You must explain why you are holding me. Almost all of these petitions filed in Minnesota have been successful.”
