Prof. Daniel Schwarcz Quoted in Reuters About AI’s Ability to Grade Law School Exams
Professor Daniel Schwarcz, Fredrikson & Byron Professor of Law and Distinguished University Teaching Professor, was quoted by Reuters about the ability of Artificial Intelligence to grade law school exams. Six law professors conducted the study which revealed that ChatGPT’s grades were roughly approximate to those of the professors, especially when the program was given a detailed grading rubric. Prof. Schwarcz, co-author of the study, said that while the human and AI grades were similar, it’s impossible to know which did a better job evaluating the essay-style exams. He said, “It's entirely possible that AI grades were actually more ‘accurate’ in evaluating the quality of exam answers than were human grades.”
