Prof. Nick Bednar ’16 Quoted by E&E News About Government Cuts Resulting in Demoralized Staff

Professor Nick Bednar ’16 was quoted by E&E News by Politico about how, according to emails obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, senior executives at the Department of Energy moved quickly to fulfill Donald Trump’s campaign pledge of cutting government jobs. Prof. Bednar said the administration’s layoffs that took place earlier this year, and have also been threatened during the government shutdown, has caused a growing workload to be done by fewer staffers. He said, “Among federal employees, reductions-in-force are often derisively referred to as the ‘Hunger Games’ because they force employees to compete against one another for a dwindling number of positions and are profoundly demoralizing.”
