Prof. Alan Rozenshtein Interviewed by MPR News About Minnesota Suing TikTok
Professor Alan Rozenshtein was interviewed by MPR News about the state of Minnesota suing TikTok. Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison says that TikTok violated state consumer protection laws by designing a platform that’s addicting and harmful to children. He called TikTok “digital nicotine” that creates an urge to endlessly scroll videos to maximize advertising profits and that children are vulnerable to the app’s design. Prof. Rozenshtein said, “What the state is alleging is that TikTok has designed its platform in a way that is particularly harmful to children in terms of addition and exploitation and they have done so knowingly and they have done so non-transparently and it therefore violates a whole set of consumer protection statutes.” Listen to the interview.
