Prof. Jane Kirtley Interviewed by KSTP News About Hennepin County Refusing to Release Public Records Related to Attack on State Lawmakers

Professor Jane Kirtley, Silha Professor of Media Ethics and Law, was interviewed by KSTP News about Hennepin County refusing to release recordings or transcripts of the 911 calls when Minnesota state legislators were attacked. Hennepin County has denied the release saying an active investigation was continuing. Prof. Jane Kirtley said, “They are public information and they should be released. That’s it. It’s very simple. There’s no carve-out for an ongoing investigation.” She added that the county saying the transcripts can be kept confidential while the investigation is active is incorrect. She said, “With all due respect, they’re making that up. These are 911 transcripts. They’re public under the law. They should be released.” Watch the interview.
