Prof. Myron Orfield’s Book Cited in Star Tribune Opinion Column

Professor Myron Orfield’s 2010 book Region: Planning for the Future of the Twin Cities which he co-authored with Thomas F. Luce Jr., was cited by Minnesota Star Tribune columnist Eric Roper regarding how the many local governments in the Twin Cities Metro Area have created a patchwork of priorities and regulations. Prof. Orfield, Earl R. Larson Professor of Civil Rights and Civil Liberties and Director, Institute of Metropolitan Opportunity, and Luce wrote that all these governments contribute to “increasingly scattered development patterns, increasing segregation, growing fiscal inequality, and threats to the area’s natural assets.” They also found, however, that the area’s regional planning efforts appeared to be curbing these problems compared to other metro areas.
