Prof. Richard Painter Quoted in San Francisco Chronicle About City Official Benefitting From Group She Directed Money

Professor Richard Painter, S. Walter Richey Professor of Corporate Law, was quoted in the San Francisco Chronicle about San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie seeking to remove Kimberly Ellis, director of the Department on the Status of Women. She came under under investigation for secretly working a side job for a political group and directing city money to her friends, according to the Chronicle. One of the recipients was a PAC of which she did consulting work. Prof. Painter said the sequence of events seemed unethical. He said, “It is highly inappropriate. There is no way you should be giving out a city contract to someone and then taking a consulting gig from someone.”
