Prof. Nick Bednar ’16 Quoted in Reuters About DOGE Cost-Cutting Likely to Continue

Professor Nick Bednar ’16 was quoted in Reuters that despite Elon Musk reportedly stepping back in his cost-cutting role and cabinet members attempting to regain influence in the Trump administration, his policies may continue. Musk has provided the White House with political cover while his so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) pursued a cost-cutting drive that has made it deeply unpopular among career staffers. But many expect the budget-slashing efforts to continue citing executive orders that have set the wheels in motion along with some cabinet officials being on board with Musk’s agenda. Prof. Bednar said, “A lot of what DOGE has done has been internalized by a lot of these agencies, and it’s going to keep moving forward,” adding that he sees government agencies as unlikely to reverse the cuts DOGE has made. “There's a train that’s left the station, it’s difficult to stop,” Bednar said.
