Prof. Richard Painter Quoted in Wall Street Journal About Televangelist Fundraising While Employed at White House
Professor Richard Painter, S. Walter Richey Professor of Corporate Law, was quoted in the Wall Street Journal about televangelist Paula White who has been given a position in the White House and regularly mixes religion with politics. In one of her videos, she pivots from faith-based messages into a fundraising appeal by describing a series of gifts to those who support her ministry with $1,000 gifts and then to messages of support from Donald Trump. Ethics experts are troubled by her raising money for her ministry while employed at the White House. Prof. Painter said, “This is the use of a public office for private gain. You cannot use the presidency or any other public office to raise money for private organizations. No private organization should be doing this.”
