Prof. Alan Rozenshtein Quoted by Star Tribune Columnist About the Fears of Deportations
Professor Alan Rozenshtein was quoted by Star Tribune columnist John Rash about students with visas being targeted for deportation due to minor legal infractions or expressing an opinion that runs contrary to the Trump administration. Prof. Rozenshtein said the fear is justified. He said, “They’re not overreacting.” The Trump administration, he continued, is “trying to deport some Tufts undergrad for writing an article complaining that a divest-from-Israel petition was not properly presented to the Board of Regents.” He added that in addition to students being threatened with deportation, others are living with the same fear. “There is no question that we are currently living under some form of authoritarianism,” he said, adding that it wouldn’t be the first time in American history, but “we’ve managed to self-correct every time.”
