Prof. Jorge Contreras Quoted in Law360 About Musk/Dorsey’s ‘Delete All IP Law’ Proposal
Visiting Professor Jorge Contreras was quoted in Law360 about a recent statement by Elon Musk, head of the President's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), and Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey that the United States should “delete all IP law” -- referring to the laws relating to patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets and related rights. Contreras noted that despite the bluster and unrealistic scope of the Musk/Dorsey statement, it contains a grain of truth inasmuch as current IP systems are burdened by significant inefficiency, cost and opportunism. He observed, “While we can't just delete the entire US IP system, if Mr. Musk wants to form a committee to look into ways that the IP system can be streamlined and made less burdensome for businesses, I'll be the first to sign up.”
