Prof. Jill Hasday Discusses New Book, We the Men, in the Washington Post

Professor Jill Hasday, Distinguished McKnight University Professor and Centennial Professor in Law, discussed her new book, We the Men: How Forgetting Women’s Struggles for Equality Perpetuates Inequality, in a Washington Post article on recent changes to the National Park Service’s webpage on the Underground Railroad. 

Hasday recently wrote a book on the importance of remembering women’s struggle for equality, saying that commemorations and celebrations of prominent women figures have been “fought over for more than a century.” 

“Historical memory shapes present thought and future action,” she said. “In other words, commemorations are so contested because they’re only partially about the past. They’re really about the present and the future.”
