Prof. Charlotte Garden Appointed Associate Dean for Academic Affairs

Professor Charlotte Garden, Gray, Plant, Mooty, Mooty & Bennett Professor of Law, has been appointed the University of Minnesota Law School's next associate dean for academic affairs, beginning in January 2026. Professor Garden joined the Minnesota Law faculty in 2022 from Seattle University School of Law. Her specialty areas are labor and employment law and constitutional law, especially the First Amendment. She has published in many leading law journals, co-authored two leading work law casebooks, and been active in national policy efforts to strengthen workers’ rights. Professor Garden led the Appointments Committee this year during an exceptionally fruitful hiring season and served with Kim Ronning as faculty advisor for Minnesota Law's SSG peer tutoring program.

Professor Garden will follow Professor Oren Gross, the current associate dean for academic affairs, and Irving Younger Professor of Law, who is nearing the completion of a remarkably productive three-year term in the role.

Congratulations, Professor Garden!
