Prof. Fionnuala Ní Aoláin Authors the Foreword for ‘Security First! Impact of Security Laws on Civic Space in West Africa’ from Spaces for Change
Prof. Fionnuala Ní Aoláin KC (Hons), Regents Professor, Robina Chair in Law, Public Policy, and Society, and director of Minnesota Law’s Human Rights Center, wrote the foreword for Spaces for Change’s latest report, “Security First: Impact of Security Laws on Civic Space in West Africa.” She also delivered the report’s opening remarks in Banjul, the Gambia. Representatives from regional bodies and civil society organizations from Nigeria, Ghana, and Sierra Leone, as well as members of academia and the media, attended the launch. Read Security First! Spaces for Change (S4C) is a non-profit organization focused on infusing human rights into Nigeria’s social and economic governance processes. Through research, policy analysis, advocacy, youth engagement, public interest litigation, and community action, the organization aims to enhance the participation of often-excluded young people, marginalized groups, and communities in social and economic development while also assisting public authorities and corporate entities in placing a human rights approach at the center of their decision-making.
