Minnesota Lawyer Profiles Minnesota Law’s Human Rights Center
A profile of Minnesota Law’s Human Rights Center was published in Minnesota Lawyer last week. It described Margaret Huang’s lecture in December as one was one of many events sponsored by the Human Rights Center, which “promotes research on pressing real-world challenges, prepares future lawyers with the commitment and skills to defend human rights, and partners with civil society to impact law, policy, and practice. One of the first centers of its kind, the HRC was founded by Professor David Weissbrodt in 1988 to support the human rights community in Minnesota and to serve as an academic setting for the study and dissemination of human rights law, policy and procedures.” It also quoted HRC’s Executive Director Amanda Lyons '09 who said, “A big part of the HRC’s work is partnering with a wide range of groups on racial justice matters. We try to help those partners access international mechanisms and United Nations tools.” Faculty Director Fionnuala Ní Aoláin added that the HRC “broke new ground on placing human rights at the center of legal attention. Globally, the HRC is a leader, the first to create an on-line library for human rights actors and lawyers to access international legal materials for free online.”
