Prof. Jane Kirtley Quoted in Reason About Kash Patel’s Statements Against the Press

Professor Jane Kirtley, Silha Professor of Media Ethics and Law, was quoted in an opinion article in Reason about Kash Patel, nominee to head the FBI, and his statements about the American press. He has earlier threatened to “come after the people in the media who lied about American citizens.” The author said Patel’s confirmation could have serious implications not only for the anti-Trump journalists he has in mind but also for freedom of the press generally. Prof. Kirtley is quoted saying, "If Kash Patel becomes the director of the FBI, it will mark the apotheosis of the concerted attack on the independent media which has been brewing for more than 20 years. Vengeance and retribution will be the order of the day."
