Prof. Susan Wolf Interviewed on KARE About the Study to Create a Biorepository on the Moon
Professor Susan Wolf, Regents Professor and McKnight Presidential Professor of Law, Medicine & Public Policy, was interviewed on KARE about a biorepository on the moon. She and Prof. John Bischof of the College of Science and Engineering are working with other scientists and the Smithsonian Institution on cryopreserving cells, tissues, whole organs, and whole organisms on the moon. The moon’s shadowed craters are cold enough to store biosamples without the need for electricity or human intervention. Prof. Wolf said, “What would it look like to create a genuinely public cooperative single biorepository that is not vulnerable to ecological, nuclear, other disasters on Earth and could really be a hedge against disaster? Our big insurance policy up on the moon,”
