This year, Minnesota Law clinics continue to deliver real results. Students cleared a client’s tax debt, advanced a federal immigration case before the Eighth Circuit, helped a client earn a commutation, and testified before the Minnesota Legislature on gun violence prevention.
Federal Immigration Law Clinic
On March 20, students from Minnesota Law’s Federal Immigration Litigation Clinic advanced arguments on their case before a panel of federal judges at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
Ronald M. Mankoff Tax Clinic
Tax clinic student attorney Shea Heier ’26 successfully negotiated a zero balance for a client who was facing a $20K tax liability from the IRS.
Clemency Project Clinic
Annemarie Foy ’26 and Emily Westover ‘26 successfully advocated for client Marcus Allen Brown’s sentence to be commuted to time he had already served.
Gun Violence Prevention Clinic
Claire Albrecht ’26, a student attorney with the Gun Violence Prevention Clinic, and Professor Megan Walsh, director of the Gun Violence Prevention Clinic, testified before the Minnesota House Education Policy Committee in support of HF 3401. Their testimony focused on the constitutionality of the proposed gun regulations, including a requirement that firearms stored in cars on school parking lots be unloaded, secured in a locked container, and stored in a locked trunk or kept out of plain sight within a vehicle.
