The University of Minnesota Law School has launched Minnesota Law Now, a podcast inviting listeners to join timely, thought-provoking conversations with leading legal scholars on the issues defining our era.
Designed for alumni, students, practitioners, and anyone interested in how law intersects with everyday life, Minnesota Law Now showcases the depth and range of expertise within the Law School’s faculty and welcomes distinguished guests from across the legal and policy landscape. Episodes cover topics from presidential power and administrative authority to labor rights, corporate governance, gender in the workplace, immigration, policing, data privacy, and the evolving relationship between law and science.
The first two episodes focus on presidential power, analyzing its constitutional foundations, evolving boundaries, and real-world implications. Episode 1, “Presidential Power in the Trump Era,” features Professors Nicholas Bednar ’16 and Alan Rozenshtein, who examine the scope and limits of executive authority during a period of constitutional tension and institutional stress. Drawing on their expertise in administrative law and national security law, they unpack how recent developments have tested long-standing norms and the potential implications for the future of the presidency.
Episode 2, “The U.S. Presidency: Power, Responsibility, and Accountability,” brings together former Dean of Minnesota Law E. Thomas Sullivan, president emeritus of the University of Vermont, and Richard W. Painter, S. Walter Richey Professor of Corporate Law and former White House ethics lawyer, for a conversation about the historical, ethical, and legal dimensions of presidential leadership. They discuss the balance between authority and accountability, the role of legal constraints, and the responsibilities that come with the highest office in the nation.
